Selvin Merida started the night class in the winter of 2014. As an automotive technician, he was determined to expand his business and realized the best way to do this was to add a variety of services at his shop. Selvin took the installation course in the evenings from 6pm to 9:30pm Monday to Thursday to learn audio, security, remote starters, mobile video installation and obtain the MECP Certification. He would leave his shop after business hours, sometimes skipping dinner to make sure he arrived on time. Within 5 weeks of being in class, Selvin was ready to take audio installation jobs. He started bringing customer vehicles to class during the hands on portion. He then expanded to alarms and remote starters. He is the owner of Openskies Brake Auto Center in Clifton and East Orange NJ. He offers complete automotive services consisting of auto repair, detailing services, and 12 volt installations.
