Segment 2: Vehicle Telematics
In this segment, students will learn about vehicle telematics and how it’s applied in the 12-volt industry. As installers, they must be familiar with modern technology and terms. They will learn about internal communication network that interconnects components inside a vehicle. CAN Bus, which is the vehicle standard designed to allow devices to communicate with each other within the vehicle. They will learn how information is sent and received thru fiber optic cables. Class A, B, & C, GM LAN, SAEJ1850, Flex Ray, D2B, IE BUS, MOST protocol, LIN Protocol will be reviewed and analyzed so an installer could understand the technology found in the vehicle before any work is performed. Students will learn to test vehicles for this technology. In addition, students will learn proper assembly and disassembly of the vehicle. They will perform hands on exercises to understand removal of panels, proper use of tools, and safety precautions to take when putting all panels back in the designated areas of the car.
